Unlike common mainstream domains such as .com/.net/.org/.cn, .GS is a very niche domain, what we often call a non-mainstream domain. The only reason I chose this suffix for domain registration is that it has relatively few registrations, so I can register shorter domains, and two-character domains do not carry a premium.
Originally, I planned to register a tn.gs to provide a domain shortening service for THENAME.CN, but all two-letter pure-alphabet domains had already been taken.
At that moment, I suddenly remembered my friend@Tokyo Blues's words: at the time he asked me, since my online name is doyen (actually it isn't really an online name, but a title), why not make a homophone and register a j9.com? At the time I just took it as a joke, but when I was struggling to register an ultra-short domain, those words kept lingering in my mind, so I tried typing J9.GS.
Then came the turning point: j9.gs had not been registered. At first I was very impulsive and wanted to register it right away, but after thinking it over for a night, I finally decided to get the J9.GS domain and use it as my blog site.
Yes, compared with integrated platforms like WeChat Moments, QQ feeds, and even WeChat Official Accounts and Weibo, I would rather have a blog that I manage entirely by myself and that belongs to me from beginning to end, like an isolated island dwelling in the boundlessness of heaven and earth, always moving aimlessly until a kindred spirit happens to visit.
As for the Star Sea Archive, this project was originally born out of one of my hobbies. It went through names such as STSM.QINGDU, Time Archive, and Time Research Institute. After several renamings, once I had huar.net and thename.cn, I finally merged it completely into the THENAME.CN system and enabled archive.huar.net as its official domain.
